The Battle of Middle Creek: January 10, 1862 (Encore)
An untested Colonel James A. Garfield led a newly formed brigade of 3,600 men into eastern Kentucky to repel an invading rebel army of equal size. Garfield proved to be a “fighting general” as he defeated his opponent at the Battle of Middle Creek. Garfield’s victory earned him a promotion to brigadier general and set the stage for his election to Congress. This is an encore of a program originally presented in 2012. SPEAKER: David Lintern, Volunteer, James A. Garfield NHS.
