The Great Mounds Club Robbery: Mob Money in Lake & Geauga Counties In-Person
REGISTRATION BEGINS January 24. Prohibition made Cleveland, Ohio, a pretty tough town. Bootleg whiskey went hand-in-hand with gambling. Gangsters struck it rich! But law enforcement kept interfering with mob business. Solution? Move operations across the Lake & Geauga county lines. Maybe the sheriffs out in the country would be more cooperative. Soon, Tommy McGinty's Mounds Club became a favorite nightspot for Cleveland's Who's Who. The swanky private club in Willoughby Hills featured gambling and top name entertainment. In Sept. 1947, the Mounds was the scene of a robbery that took $500,000 in cash, jewels and furs. Here is the inside story. Presented by Ginnie Jeschelnig.
