Many Clevelanders recall the Sterling-Lindner Christmas trees, the mesmerizing Nela Park light displays and the beloved Mr. Jingeling. But there is a lot more to Cleveland’s Christmas seasons including an 1881 department store sale that paved the way for today’s “Black Friday” frenzy or a host of celebrities ranging from Bob Hope to Joe Lewis who helped make the holidays brighter for the city’s neediest families. Touching on all this and much more, author Alan Dutka evokes fond recollections of bygone holiday seasons in Cleveland.
