Leaders & Legacies of the Civil War: In His Own Words: James A. Garfield on Race and Justice In-Person
REGISTRATION FOR THIS PROGRAM BEGINS AUGUST 10TH AT 1:00 PM!
Though he would not describe himself as an abolitionist, James Garfield believed that slavery was a moral and political stain in the fabric of a nation concieved in liberty. He opposed slavery before and during the Civil War. He was an advocate for civil and political rights for those newly freed after the Union victory in 1865.
