Science Fiction Book Club In-Person

Interested in reading some new (or classic) speculative fiction?  Join us at the Headlands Community Center on the 3rd Wednesday of every month for an in-depth discussion of some thought-provoking titles!

For the inaugural meeting, we'll be reading The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin.

"A groundbreaking work of science fiction, The Left Hand of Darkness tells the story of a lone human emissary to Winter, an alien world whose inhabitants can choose - and change - their gender. His goal is to facilitate Winter's inclusion in a growing intergalactic civilization. But to do so he must bridge the gulf between his own views and those of the completely dissimilar culture that he encounters.

Embracing the aspects of psychology, society, and human emotion on an alien world, The Left Hand of Darkness stands as a landmark achievement in the annals of intellectual science fiction."

Library programs will be conducted in accordance with current state health and safety mandates/guidelines, which are subject to change. We encourage all attendees to observe these rules so that in-person programing may continue. We encourage masks at our programs and ask that family groups maintain social distance from other family groups. It is up to the individual to determine his or her level of comfort and acceptable risk when attending programs. If you are concerned about public gatherings, please do not attend.
