Leaders & Legacies of the Civil War In-Person

The Evolution of the U.S. Navy from the Civil War to the “Steel Navy” The Civil War saw the rise of the first “ironclads,” and when James A. Garfield became President in 1881, he hoped to build a modern Navy of steel warships.  Learn more about the evolution of the Navy from wooden ships to the “steel Navy” of the Garfield/Arthur period in this encore presentation originally given in 2016.  Speaker:  Alan Gephardt, James A. This will be a live, in-person event. Registration is required. Library programs will be conducted in accordance with current health and safety mandates/guidelines which are subject to change.  We encourage all attendees to observe these rules so that in-person programing may continue.  It is up to the individual to determine his or her level of comfort and acceptable risk when attending programs.
