Title: ​A Tale of Two Cities:  Understanding the History of Structural Racism in creating the Built Environment

Presenter: ​Dr. Jason Reece, Assistant Professor, City and Regional Planning, OSU

Program description: ​Disparities in the built environment have a profound influence on equity and the sustainability of metropolitan regions. The session will present an overview of the history of structural racism and its influence on Northeast Ohio region's urban geography. The talk will focus on the policies and practices that influenced the contemporary population patterns, segregation, and disparities between communities and neighborhoods in the region. The talk will close with discussing the need for greater historical awareness of the forms of discrimination that were institutionalized in policy and influence the region today.
