James A. Garfield 1880 Front Porch Campaign In-Person
REGISTRATION BEGINS AUGUST 27th. James Garfield is credited with conducting the first "front porch campaign" for president of the United States in 1880. He ran it at his home in Mentor Ohio! This talk is based on research in newspaper accounts, Mr. Garfield's diary, and letter and telegrams written to and by him in 1880. The speaker will be Alan Gephardt, a Park Ranger at James A. Garfield National Historic Site.
