Library Tuesdays @Concord: Chickamauga: The Bloodiest Days in the West In-Person

From the 18th to the 20th of September, Union and Confederate forces clashed near Chickamauga Creek in northern Georgia in what would be the bloodiest battle in the western theatre of the Civil War. When it was over, the two armies had suffered more than 28,000 killed and wounded and Bragg’s Confederate Army of Tennessee held the field. The career of Union General William Rosecrans had come to grief, but complete disaster was staved off by the heroic actions of George Thomas, forever after remembered as “the rock of Chickamauga.” Dr. John Foster of Mentor Public Library presents the story of one of the bloodiest days of the American Civil War.
